* Explanation of the transit network:
Since the overall transportation capacity of the rapid transit system requires connections between routes, after the bidding and design of Taichung MRT-Wenxin Wuri Beitun Line, it is necessary to start negotiating the suitability and follow-up arrangement sequence of the suggested route network in preliminary planning. Furthermore, considering the high expectations of Taichung residents for the rapid transit routes to be extended beyond Taichung City, it is necessary to accommodate the central government’s plans of “Taichung Metropolitan Area MRT Network,” “Asia-Pacific and Cross-Strait Logistic Center in Central Taiwan,” and “redevelopment of Shuinan Airport site,” and evaluate the suggested route network designed in detail in 1998 based on the extent of socioeconomic development in the Taichung urban region in the last decade.
Taichung MRT-Wenxin Wuri Beitun Line is being evaluated for execution by the Executive Yuan; subsequent route networks have been planned in order to construct Taichung Metropolitan Area MRT System, including the envisioned route network and core route network, described as follows.
At the current time, feasibilities studies are being conducted on the Blue and Orange Lines; later relevant work will be carried out in accordance with Mass Rapid Transit Law.
Route planning of Taichung MRT-Wenxin Wuri Beitun Line:
In the east, it begins near the No. 2 bridge on Songzhu Road in Beitun District, follows Songzhu Road westward across Taiwan Railway, then turns left to Beitun Road. Along Beitun Road, the line turns right on Wenxin Road at Wenxin Fourth Road. Along Wenxin Road, Wenxin South Road, passing the empty lot behind Chung Shan Medical University, turning on Jianguo North Road to the Daqing Street intersection. Then the line runs along Jianguo North Road (on the north side of the railway), crossing Fazi Stream then entering the Taichung High Speed Rail Station. MRT-Wenxin Wuri Beitun Line is elevated in construction, with 18 stations that have already been approved:
