Project Background

Transportation demand in the Dali, Wufeng and Taiping regions is growing due to rapid population growth and industry development in recent years. The MRT Blue Line to Taiping Extension is an important transportation project that will connect the major transportation corridors in the Tun District. The project will stimulate balanced development throughout metropolitan Taichung by not only promoting tourism and economic developments but also catering to the transportation needs of commuters and students.


Project Description

The Metro Blue Line to Taiping Extension measures approximately 4.66km and is planned as an underground line with four stations. The proposed route starts from Dongping Rd. then passes along Zhongxing E. Rd., Zhongxing Rd., Taiping Rd., and Zhengxing Rd. before arriving at Jinde Rd. to connect with MRT Blue Line B20 Station.


Current Progress

The feasibility study report was submitted by Taichung City Government to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) for review on June 20, 2022. A written review opinion was provided by the MOTC on September 21, 2022. The feasibility report was revised by the City Government based on MOTC's review opinion and submitted to the MOTC again on May 1, 2023. Another review opinion was provided by the MOTC on May 30, 2023. Further revisions were made by the City Government based on the provided opinion and a revised feasibility study report submitted to the MOTC for review on March 26, 2024. A site inspection was conducted by the MOTC Railway Bureau on May 15, 2024. The initial review meeting was convened on June 20, 2024. A revised report based on recommendations from the meeting was submitted by the City Government to the MOTC for review on November 22, 2024. Efforts are also being made to secure the approval of the feasibility study as soon as possible.
